SCTE Membership

Being an SCTE member comes with many benefits. See here on the SCTE.org site for many reasons you would benefit from joining!

Want more reason to join? Below are some testimonials from current Lake Michigan Chapter board members.

Testimonial of Steve Bristol, Inside Plant Engineer III at Charter Communications.

“I started in the cable industry as a call center representative for internet technical support and in the nearly 16 years since, I’ve held roles as a field technician, a network technician supporting enterprise fiber optic customers, and now as an Inside Plant Engineer in the headend.  A constant in my career progression has been a desire to move further up into the Engineering side of the industry.  As a field technician, I wasn’t even aware of what roles existed in the industry which is where SCTE played a major role.  Local chapter meetings introduced me to fellow chapter members within my own company and vendors who invited me to reach out to them for advice.  These contacts showed me what roles existed within the industry and training courses to prep myself for those positions; training courses that SCTE offered members.  I became an SCTE member in 2012 and started taking those courses.  Receiving industry and vendor specific certifications opened the doors to moving up in the engineering side of the cable industry.  I continue to take training courses and use both what I’ve learned in previous courses and the valuable contacts I make all the time in my role as an Engineer.  I joined the Lake Michigan Board of Directors in 2019 to encourage others to join the chapter and take advantage of everything SCTE has to offer – trainings, certifications, and opportunities to network.”

Testimonial of James Potts, Supervisor of Technical and Safety Training at Charter Communications.

“As a long time employee of Charter, I was always interested in learning more about the technical side of the cable industry. I started in customer care, focused on internet technical support – and the moved into the dispatch department. I joined the SCTE as a member in 2014. I attended training events when I could, and quickly realized the value of the material being covered – but also the networking opportunities with peers in other departments. I joined the Board of Directors for the Lake Michigan chapter in 2019, knowing I wanted to take a more active role in the organization. That same year, I applied for my current role, the Supervisor for Technical and Safety Training department. I have no doubt that the contacts I made, as well as the technical knowledge I earned as an SCTE member made a difference in getting this job. I wholeheartedly recommend the SCTE as a great way to enhance your career in the cable industry.”
