“I started in the cable industry as a call center representative for internet technical support and in the nearly 16 years since, I’ve held roles as a field technician, a network technician supporting enterprise fiber optic customers, and now as an Inside Plant Engineer in the headend. A constant in my career progression has been a desire to move further up into the Engineering side of the industry. As a field technician, I wasn’t even aware of what roles existed in the industry which is where SCTE played a major role. Local chapter meetings introduced me to fellow chapter members within my own company and vendors who invited me to reach out to them for advice. These contacts showed me what roles existed within the industry and training courses to prep myself for those positions; training courses that SCTE offered members. “As a long time employee of Charter, I was always interested in learning more about the technical side of the cable industry. I started in customer care, focused on internet technical support – and the moved into the dispatch department. I joined the SCTE as a member in 2014.
